IFR Night Flight

Description:
This lesson will begin with a 40 minute ground school lead by the Instructor. Student will understand IFR Departure/Arrival Procedures. Student will create a flight plan with predetermined coordinates. Student will execute Flight Plan.
Task:
Instructor will lead a 40 minute class on the intro to IFR
Instructor will cover the following topics:
-IFR definition and conditions.
-A review that builds on previous lessons on DME arcs.
-The importance of DME arcs when in IFR conditions.
-Expectation of Procedural Departures and Arrivals.
-Sight picture for landing at night.
-Give Student tips on maintaining situational awareness on members of their flight i.e. (SA page, JHMCS, Radar TWS in conjunction with the T-Pod for visual reference.)
Student creates Flight Plan
Instructor provides predetermined coordinates to student
Instructor briefs Flight plan to Student.
Student will execute the Flight Plan with the instructor in formation for observation.
While on the wing of the Student, the Instructor will make corrections as necessary.
-Instructor will ensure Student employs the use of position and formation lights.
-Instructor will ensure Student is cognisant of fuel management.
Instructor can make the determination if an attempt to AAR is feasible.
-It’s up to the discretion of the Instructor to offer the opportunity to AAR.
Student will DME arc.
Student will then complete a 15nm DME arc around the airfield before landing.
-The DME procedure will be pre briefed by the instructor prior to take-off.
5. Student will perform a Straight in Approach to land.
6. Student Completes Lesson after landing.
Standard:
Student must attend classroom portion. Student must create a Flight Plan. Student must execute Flight Plan. Student must demonstrate the ability to navigate under IFR conditions. Student must complete a DME arc as part of a pre-briefed procedure. Student must successfully land.
