Overview & Purpose
Introduce student to basic navigation principles.
Education Standards
1. Student will learn about courselines, headings, and
reciprocals.
2. Student will be introduced to VOR,VFR Tacan and Lat Long
standard.
3. Student will learn about DME arcs and usages.
4. Student will learn about HSI and SA page settings and
functions.
Objectives
1. Student will plan a course of no more then four waypoints
leading from the runway then back to an inbound course.
2. Student will incorporate a 10 nm DME arc to their flight
plans.
3. Student will successfully land while performing all needed
steps of the overhead break within tolerances.
4. Student will demonstrate proper comms during the entirety
of flight.
Verification
1. Mentor will ensure student waypoints ensure a safe flight
plan.
2. Mentor will verify successful DME arc.
3. Mentor will ensure student is able to successfully employ
all steps of the overhead break.
4. Mentor will monitor all airfield procedures and etiquette,
including comms.
5. Tolerances for altitude during flight - +/- 500 Feet AGL.
Tolerances for speed - +/- 25 knots. Tolerances for
altitude during overhead break - +/- 200 Feet AGL.
Tolerances for speed - +/- 10 knots.
Activity
Mentor should start by walking the student through the HSI and
all the functions therein. Mentor will also demonstrate and
explain f10 map functions and Lat Long standard. Follow the
student along the flight plan and ensure a safe flight.
