Airfield Operations
Overview & Purpose
Vet new students with F-18 startup procedures as well as basic
airfield operations and nomenclature.
Education Standards
1. Student will learn all airfield symbology including taxiway
markers, runway identifiers, tacan usage, VOR and airfield
etiquette
2. Student will learn the basics of radio communications,
differences between controlled and uncontrolled traffic.
3. Student will learn full take off procedures
Objectives
1. Student will successfully startup the F-18 by hand
2. Student will perform all radio calls prior to take off
3. Student will lead mentor from parking to runway
4. Student will successfully take off and leave Senaki
airspace
Verification
1. Student will announce all inputs during startup with the
general location of the switch or input.
2. Mentor will verify all radio comms and correct student as
needed.
3. Mentor will ensure take off is done is a safe and organized
manner.
Activity
Use this opportunity to slowly introduce the student to the
basics of airmanship and airfield navigation. Once airborne,
student may decide to exit, or practice basic flight skills.
