Formation Flight

Overview & Purpose

    Student will learn skills and information needed to successfully
fly formation with a wing of F-18.

 

Education Standards

 

    1. Student will be taught useful sight lines and bearing lines
    needed for different formations.
    2. Student will be introduced to all basic and useful
    formations used in DCS.

 

Objectives

 

    1. Student will maintain close formation.
    2. Student will maintain cruise formation.

    3. Student will demonstrate ability to shift from left to
    right echelon and vice versa.
    4. Student will attempt section landing with mentor.

 

Verification

 

    1. Mentor will ensure student maintains proper distances and
    altitudes.
    2. Mentor will ensure formations are executed and maintained
    properly.
    3. Mentor will ensure student performs all proper comms and
    airfield etiquette.

 

Activity

 

    Mentor will being the flight with the student in lead position
    and demonstrate expected distances and tolerances for the
    various formations. Once student is ready let them shift to the
    two slot and allow student to go through all formations.
