The Overhead Break
Overview & Purpose
Introduce student to the full overhead break procedure.
Education Standards
1. Student will learn all needed procedures for the overhead
break.
2. Student will learn overall purpose of the overhead break.
3. Student will learn acceptable tolerances and variations.
Objectives
1. Student will lead two ship flight from take off. Once clear
of Senaki airspace student will position for entry into the
overhead break.
2. Student will successfully land while performing all needed
steps of the overhead break within tolerances.
3. Student will demonstrate the ability to remain within
altitude tolerances while dropping gear and/or flaps.
Verification
1. Mentor will monitor all speeds and altitude changes made by
the student.
2. Mentor will ensure student is able to successfully employ
all steps of the overhead break.
3. Mentor will monitor all airfield procedures and etiquette,
including comms, upon entering Senaki airspace and continue
until student is parked.
4. Tolerances for altitude - +/- 500 Feet AGL. Tolerances for
speed - +/- 50 knots.
Activity
Begin all practice no lower than 5000 feet AGL. Once student
demonstrates all necessary abilities, mentor may use his or her
discretion to practice skills at lower altitudes.
